Daniel Tan Kuan Wei elected 2018/19 President of RIMAS

14 Mar 2018

Mr Daniel Tan Kuan Wei has been elected President of the Risk and Insurance Management Association of Singapore (RIMAS) for the 2018/19 term. This was announced in a note he sent to RIMAS members last week.

Mr Tan, who has 15 years of experience in risk management in both public and private sector domains, is currently a Group Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Lead in public healthcare. He has been a RIMAS Governing Council Board member since 2011. He takes over from Mr Sean Chan, who had been President since 2013 and will remain on RIMAS’ Governing Council.

Mr Tan previously worked at Mediacorp, a major group of media companies in Singapore, where he spearheaded its ERM programme. Prior to Mediacorp, he was a consultant at the risk advisory arm of one of the “Big 4” auditing firms and before that,  he was an Intelligence Analyst with the Singapore Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and in Strategic Planning with the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), where he was actively involved in threat assessments and horizon scanning.

He was appointed by the Singapore government in April 2014 as the Chairman of the National Working Group on Risk Management (NWGRM) at the country level to help shape Singapore’s perspectives to relevant risk management standards (e.g. ISO 31000, ISO19600).

In his note to RIMAS members, Mr Tan also announced the RIMAS Governing Council members for 2018/19:

It will be supporting and collaborating with other like-minded organizations this year to present a range of events, seminars and conferences, and will also restructure its outreach programme to see how best it can further engage members.

RIMAS will also continue to build professional recognition scheme with its recent introduction of Certified Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA), Certified Enterprise Risk Manager (CERM), Professional Enterprise Risk Manager (PERM) and Fellow in Enterprise Risk Management (FERM). These new certification schemes will provide professional recognition to its holders at the national level to be equipped as experienced risk professionals.

“It is a special honour and a privilege to begin my term as President, RIMAS from March 2018. Our immediate past president, Mr Sean Chan, deserves an enormous appreciation from all of us in guiding and leading RIMAS throughout the past four years,” said Mr Tan.

The Governing Council of RIMAS, including its President, is elected at RIMAS’ Annual General Meeting every two years. The President can hold office for up to two terms, while there is no limit to the terms of each Council member.
