Sun Life Financial names new CEO

| 11 May 2018

Sun Life Financial has announced that Ms Riza Mantaring, Sun Life's CEO and Country Head in the Philippines will retire from her current role on June 30, 2018 after a distinguished career of 26 years - including 9 years as CEO - with unprecedented growth in the Philippines. Under her leadership, Sun Life became the number one life insurance company in the Philippines for the first time in the company's history and has held that market position for the past 7 years. Mr Benedict Sison, currently Chief Strategy and Financial Management Officer for Sun Life Philippines, will succeed Ms Mantaring to continue Sun Life's plans to grow in the Philippines as part of a larger growth strategy for Asia.

As CEO, Ms Mantaring has been a visionary in helping Sun Life to connect with more Filipinos by using innovation, technology and creative marketing campaigns to grow the client base from just under 1 million to 3.6 million people today. At the same time, the agency force more than quadrupled to over 11,000 advisors. She will stay connected in a new role as chair of the holding company of Sun Life’s businesses in the Philippines to engage with clients, employees, agents and industry professionals.

Mr Sison has worked closely with Ms Mantaring since joining the company in 2010. He has gained a deep understanding of Sun Life’s clients, advisors, employees and business opportunities from serving as CFO for the Philippines, CFO for Asia and most recently as Chief Strategy and Financial Management Officer for the Philippines. He has advanced growth strategies and creative solutions to help Sun Life expand in new markets while continuing to grow the agency of advisors.
