The 15th Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC) will begin this afternoon at the city-state's Sands Expo & Convention Centre at the iconic Marina Bay Sands. Billed as Asia's reinsurance event of the year, the event this year, with the theme of 'Reinsurance Reloaded' has attracted record high registration of over 1,000 delegates from about 50 countries.
After the welcome address this afternoon by SIRC organising committee chairman Sivam Subramaniam, this year’s guest of honour Singapore Minister for Finance Mr Heng Swee Keat will deliver the official keynote, after which AIG global president and CEO Brian Duperreault will take the stage.
Following the welcome cocktail reception for all delegates, this evening will witness the glittering by-invitation-only 22nd Asia Insurance Industry Awards 2018 gala dinner organised by Asia Insurance Review, where insurance champions who represent the very best of the industry, will be crowned. The winners triumphed over stiff competition amid a bumper crop of some 800 entries this year.
On Tuesday, 30 October, Munich Re’s global head of innovation Tom Van den Brulle will speak on ‘Digital Platforms, Ecosystems’ and will join a panel of distinguished insurance and bank representatives to debate on the conference theme. Distinction.Global co-founder and cyber security expert Peter Hacker will present a special keynote on the industry’s ‘ticking time bomb’ of silent cyber risks.
Wednesday, 31 October, will see Dr Olivier Mahul, Global Lead and Program Manager for Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance Program, World Bank, speak on the topic of “Toward a regional approach for Sovereign Disaster Risk Finance in Asia”. He will then join a panel of regional representatives to discuss how Asia’s reinsurers can respond to reinsurance today.
Besides the Lloyd’s Coffee House which has been the traditional hive of activity for meetings, the SIRC will feature exhibitions, and sponsored bilateral meeting rooms and meeting spots at Sweet Spot Café.
One highlight this year is a comprehensive conference app with all the latest information on the programme, news, delegates, participating companies and administrative information. The app can be downloaded on Google Play or the App Store.
The SIRC, an annual event, is organised by the Singapore Reinsurers’ Association (SRA) and co-organised by the Reinsurance Brokers’ Association of Singapore (RBAS), with Asia Insurance Review as the official media partner. This year’s event ends on Thursday, 1 November.
